Mustang Challenge Returns Stateside for Road America

Following the highly successful Le Mans Invitational last month, Mustang Challenge will roar back into action on U.S. soil this weekend at Road America for the continuation of its points-paying championship chase.

Rounds 5 and 6 of the season will feature a total of 19 Ford Mustang Dark Horse Rs, including a returning front-runner to the single-make series.

Ford Performance Junior Team driver Sam Paley, who swept the weekend at Road America last year en route to a third place finish in the Dark Horse points standings, will be making his first points-paying starts of the season in his Paley Motorsports entry.

Paley, who started the year off in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge with McCumbee McAleer Racing’s Ford Mustang GT4, is coming off a double podium finish at the Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational with his team, which are regulars in the USAC-sanctioned Mustang Cup.

It is the only addition to the entry list this weekend, with Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley and Bruce Myrehn, who both utilized the last U.S. round at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as preparation for Le Mans, not slated to take part this weekend at Road America.

Robert Noaker, who remains undefeated this year in the points-paying rounds, holds a commanding 320-point lead over Spark Performance’s Alex Bachoura, who sits second overall but also leads the Dark Horse Legends category.

TechSport’s Devin Anderson is third in the Dark Horse points standings entering this weekend’s action.

Track action kicks off on Thursday afternoon with an opening 30-minute practice, followed by another session on Friday, as well as qualifying. Race 1 gets underway Saturday at 8 a.m. CST, with Race 2 scheduled for Sunday at 8:20 a.m., with both 45-minute races to be streamed on Peacock as well as IMSA and Ford Performance’s YouTube channels.
